Bishop’s Message

Step

While the ark is evidence of Noah’s faith, it is the arc of Noah’s faith that inspires me. How does faith that is small and struggles to make room to listen for God, become faith that creates big things to the glory of God? Answer: One step at a time! How did Job, the poster child for loss and grief, become the poster child for patience and virtue? Answer: One step at a time! We are marvelously made by a wonderful God. We already have, today, what we need to take the next step with God.

Psalm 139:14

Choir Rehearsals-The choir will rehearse at 9:20 a.m. on Sunday mornings rather than on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. Regular Wednesday evening choir rehearsals will resume on Wednesday, August 9th, at 5:30 p.m.

If you would like to sing or play a solo during the Offertory this summer, please see Kristen Donaldson (Choirmaster).

Parish Building and Grounds Committee-The Parish Building and Grounds Committee recently met and brought the following request to the vestry at the July 5th meeting: The one ongoing need for the parish, concerning the upkeep of the facility has been identified in order to save money in the future, is the purchase of a commercial type carpet cleaner, as the carpets are showing more and more soiling due to increase use of the church. In the past, we have had the carpets cleaned on an annual basis at a cost of $750. The committee’s research shows that a carpet cleaner can be acquired for less than $300, which will give us the ability to stay ahead of heavy soiling and only have a professional cleaning every third year. The vestry suggested that a small campaign be started for contributions to be made to this cause in order not to exceed the annual budget for 2017 which has been stretched due to the A/C repair in the Parish Hall. If you feel inclined, please contribute to this need by placing a separate donation in the offering plate (tagging it for this project). Thanks for your support.

Marvin Gray, Jr. Warden

It will be necessary to have a head count of those attending so please sign the sheet provided on the round table in the Narthex or contact Bob or Jody.

AARP Driver Safety Class Coming Soon!– St. Albans Episcopal Church will host the AARP Driving Safety Class on Saturday, September 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation’s first and largest classroom course, designed especially for licensed drivers age 50 and older and for all licensed drivers of all ages. Course completion helps drivers refine existing skills and develop safe driving strategies in today’s challenging driving environment. There are no tests required.

Participants receive a comprehensive course workbook, which provides a thorough review of the “rules of the road” with an emphasis on safety strategies for drivers. The course also covers normal changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time associated with aging, and provides practical techniques to adjust for these changes.

Participants are charged a minimal fee of $15.00 for AARP members and $20.00 for nonmembers.

Auto Insurance Discounts: Legislation in Georgia require all automobile insurance companies conducting business in this state to offer a premium discount to participants completing a state-approved driver improvement course. (Participants must contact their insurance company or agent.)

Please bring your AARP card, valid driver’s license, lunch, and a drink and snack, and of course, your money (cash or check).

Please call Shirley at 770-267-2893 to make your reservation.

Remember the Poor-Our Alms Box is located on the right side on the wall when you walk out of the sanctuary. Please remember the poor and give your spare change. Checks and bills are accepted also. Thank you!

Bishop’s Message

Heart

We care about heart trouble. Not just the trouble that affects the four-valved muscle in our chests. But, the trouble that causes people to lose faith and give into the world’s woes and ways. When we gather we say “Lift up your heart.” We do this because Jesus is helium for our hearts. He tells us, “Take heart, I have overcome the world.” Your eyes may dim with age. Your mind might go blank. Your height might shrink, and your hands and feet might rack with pain. But, to know that Jesus is the way, truth and life, your heart won’t give you any trouble.

Bishop’s Message

Same…

There is a time for everything, the Bible tells us. Except, there is no time for fear! Fear lowers the ceiling of possibility, shrinks our hearts and awakens our inner tyrants. Fear pits us against neighbors and decreases our dependence on God. Yet, people are fainting from fear all around us. They justify their fear by saying, “our times are uncertain.” They’re wrong! We live in difficult times, even challenging times, but we don’t live in uncertain times. Our times are not uncertain because God is certain! Our times are in God’s hands. And God is the “…same, yesterday and today and forever.”

Parish Building and Grounds Committee-The Parish Building and Grounds Committee recently met and brought the following request to the vestry at the July 5th meeting: The two ongoing needs for the parish, concerning the upkeep of the facility have been identified in order to save money in the future, are the purchase of a commercial type carpet cleaner, as the carpets are showing more and more soiling due to increase use of the church, and a replacement commercial exterior door for the mechanical room off the Narthex. In the past, we have had the carpets cleaned on an annual basis at a cost of $750. The committee’s research shows that a carpet cleaner can be acquired for less than $300, which will give us the ability to stay ahead of heavy soiling and only have a professional cleaning every third year. All exterior doors on the original parish building (circa 1954) have been replaced with the exception of the furnace room. It has begun to delaminate and has become a security liability. Unfortunately, it is an oversized model and is somewhat difficult to locate. The vestry suggested that a small campaign be started for contributions to be made to these causes in order not to exceed the annual budget for 2017 which has been stretched due to the A/C repair in the Parish Hall. If you feel inclined, please contribute to these needs by placing a separate donation in the offering plate (tagging it for either one of the projects).
