Pipe Organ Update – The first of three pipe organ manufacturers, Mr. Robert Coulter, will be visiting St. Alban’s on Wednesday, March 19th, at 4:30 p.m. Although he will be meeting with the Pipe Organ Committee, other members of the congregation are invited to attend prior to the Lenten Supper. The purpose of the meeting is to recommend an installation design and to provide a bid for their organ.
The second and third manufacturers will make similar proposals on March 26th and April 2nd.

THE SERPENT IN THE WILDERNESS
This Sunday in our Gospel reading from John 3, Jesus makes reference to a passage of scripture found in Numbers 21. Israel was constantly grumbling against God – due to their disobedience they wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. They blamed Moses and questioned his leadership and ultimately murmured against God.
In Numbers 21, God gave Israel a victory over an enemy – Arad a Canaanite King. Instead of being grateful and thankful they “spoke against God.” To get their attention God sent “fiery serpents” (poisonous snakes). Of course they cried out for help and God instructed Moses to make a bronze serpent and put it on a pole. Everyone who looked at the bronze serpent was healed.
Jesus makes reference to this passage in a very profound way: “And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so MUST the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” Healing comes from looking at Jesus and believing in Him.
So many times and in so many ways Jesus is prefigured in the Old Testament. Here is a perfect example; what God gave Moses to bring “salvation” and “healing” to a sinful and rebellious people was just a shadow of what HE would do for all of us. Jesus was lifted up on a cross to save us from the “fiery serpent.”
See you Sunday,
