Psalm 105:1-11, 45b
Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52
Readings for Next Week:
II Peter 1:13-21
God is not a manicured English garden. God is a yellow defiant dandelion in a green lawn. God, “is a weed climbing a wall over a well.” Prune if you will, but it just won’t die. God’s ways and love are messy. When we were given away at our baptism, and when we give ourselves away at the altar each week, it’s a messy proposition. “I will with God’s help,” we say. How imprecise! Yet what we say is indissoluble! There’s something about God’s “I love you” to us that gets written on the stationery of eternity.
August 1 – Bob Emmons
August 3 – Nicole Richards
August 5 – Jim Laird
Choir Rehearsals-The choir will rehearse at 9:20 a.m. on Sunday mornings rather than on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. Regular Wednesday evening choir rehearsals will resume on Wednesday, August 9th, at 5:30 p.m.
If you would like to sing or play a solo during the Offertory this summer, please see Kristen Donaldson (Choirmaster).
Welcome--Rev. Geoffrey Boyer will be with us Sunday, July 30, as our supply priest. Rev. Pat is on vacation and will be back at St. Alban’s on August 8.
Parish Building and Grounds Committee-The Parish Building and Grounds Committee recently met and brought the following request to the vestry at the July 5th meeting: The one ongoing need for the parish, concerning the upkeep of the facility has been identified in order to save money in the future, is the purchase of a commercial type carpet cleaner, as the carpets are showing more and more soiling due to increase use of the church. In the past, we have had the carpets cleaned on an annual basis at a cost of $750. The committee’s research shows that a carpet cleaner can be acquired for less than $300, which will give us the ability to stay ahead of heavy soiling and only have a professional cleaning every third year. The vestry suggested that a small campaign be started for contributions to be made to this cause in order not to exceed the annual budget for 2017 which has been stretched due to the A/C repair in the Parish Hall. If you feel inclined, please contribute to this need by placing a separate donation in the offering plate (tagging it for this project). Thanks for your support.

AARP Driver Safety Class Coming Soon!– St. Albans Episcopal Church will host the AARP Driving Safety Class on Saturday, September 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation’s first and largest classroom course, designed especially for licensed drivers age 50 and older and for all licensed drivers of all ages. Course completion helps drivers refine existing skills and develop safe driving strategies in today’s challenging driving environment. There are no tests required.
Participants receive a comprehensive course workbook, which provides a thorough review of the “rules of the road” with an emphasis on safety strategies for drivers. The course also covers normal changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time associated with aging, and provides practical techniques to adjust for these changes.
Participants are charged a minimal fee of $15.00 for AARP members and $20.00 for nonmembers.
Auto Insurance Discounts: Legislation in Georgia require all automobile insurance companies conducting business in this state to offer a premium discount to participants completing a state-approved driver improvement course. (Participants must contact their insurance company or agent.)
Please bring your AARP card, valid driver’s license, lunch, and a drink and snack, and of course, your money (cash or check).
Please call Shirley at 770-267-2893 to make your reservation.
